Hey everyone today in topics of health class we talked about a key to a good relationship like getting to know yourself, becoming more accepting of yourself. we talked about there are three basic listening modes competitive, passive, and active. Competition is combative, listening happens when we are more interested in promoting our own point of view. Passive is attentive, listening occurs when we are genuinely interested in hearing and understanding the other person's point of view. Active is reflective, listening is active in confirming our understanding before responding with our own new message.
I am not in this class this semester but that is a great topic to learn about since it is such a common thing in life to be distracted while talking to people. It is definitely important to understand the types of listening and how to do them so while we are in conversations we can actually listen and learn from what others are saying. Then it also translates into the classroom currently and in the future as educators, we need to active listeners for our professors and then to students in the future to get the most out of the education.
ReplyDeleteI had that class last semester and it was an amazing class. This is a great topic to learn about and it was interesting learning about promoting our own point of view. Active listening is a form of listening that will benefit you in teaching in the future. This translates very well into the classroom and shows everyone's preferred listening style. Competitive listening is a difficult one but active listening is the best listening style in my opinion.
